The English Word Profile (English Voca profile) contains information about phrases, idioms and collocations as well as the words themselves. It divides these words with meanings into 6 levels, and tells us at which level we see learners of English using them correctly and appropriately.
There are 6 levels: beginner (A1), Elementary (A2), Intermediate (B1), Upper-Intermediate (B2), Advanced (C1), Proficiency (C2).
Some examples:
follow
- go: to move behind someone and go when they go (elementary level)
- happen after: to happen or come after something (intermediate level)
- follows somebodys example: to copy someones behavior or idea (proficiency level)
come:
- go with someone (beginner level)
- come into being: start to exist (proficiency level)
- come to terms with sth: to accept a sad situation (proficiency level)
bring
- take with you (elementary level)
- bring sth into light (proficiency level)
go into sth
- to start to do a particular type of work (advanced level)
- to describe, discuss or examine something in detailed way (proficiency level)
go off
- to leave a place (intermediate level)
- if something that makes noise goes off, it suddenly starts making noise (upper intermediate level)
- if a bomb or a gun goes off, it explodes or fires (advanced level)
battle
- a fight between armed forces in a war (intermediate level)
- a fight against something that is very difficult (problems, illness) (upper-intermediate level)
